It is a very healthy process and it has helped me to stay focused. I always advise people to keep resumes up to date. Not to continually be looking for a job but to use it as a tool to manage your own career. If you keep your career front and center and you and your company are growing then it is likely that you will have the opportunity to add to your accomplishments. It is more about making sure you know why you are staying a firm and not why you might be leaving.
I think it is easy to get into a routine of going to work and home again (lather - rinse - repeat) and not think about managing your own career. That's what this time of year means to me (of course aside from all of the holidays and the onset of winter). So for those of you who got a ton of network activity notices, sorry about that - just recharging the batteries.
