What's the Job Market Like for IT Professionals?

I have been active in the market for a period of a few months now. Surprisingly there are a lot of job opportunities out there especially given the economy and more bad news it seems daily. I spoke to several of the top recruiting firms in the U.S. and they are seeing a very active market as well.

Success in securing a job still largely depends on your network. A recent department of labor statistics article indicated that that this is the case for 75% of job seekers. I have seen an increase in opportunities that surface via social networking venues like LinkedIn and Plaxo. I have had recruiters find me on these sites and present opportunities as well.

These sites can also be mined as well...I have come across a number potential opportunities on these sites which means more companies are beginning to use these sites as a another recruiting channel.
